Our best attempt at a family photo

Ellie liked picking the apples, she just won't eat them

How many apples can one kid eat at a time?

Harrison insisted I take a picture of him lying on this rock

Last Saturday we spent the most beautiful New England Fall day picking apples at Doe Orchards. Harrison and Ellie ran wild through the rows of trees and stopped occasionally to focus on picking apples. Both kids took to hiding in the trees near the trunks where it was near impossible for an adult to reach them. Harrison was our master apple sampler and ate nearly three full apples while we were there (although he wasn't much help in deciding which varieties to bring home, he said they were all good). I had fun watching the kids enjoy the simple pleasures of nature as they ran through rows and rows of Christmas trees (Doe orchards also grows Christmas trees and allows people to cut down their own), climb on and jump off rocks, and roll in the wet grass. I have finally determined there is no such thing as "wearing my kids out"; running around like that never means they will take a longer nap or anything of the sort.
We also picked out a huge pumpkin and have plans to carve it later this month. This will be the first time we actually make a jack-o-lantern with the kids (every year we plan on it and never get around to it).
We are now enjoying our delicious stash of fresh apples and put some of them to good use in an apple pie on Saturday night.

It was fun to see you in the orchard!
It looks like you had a fun, beautiful day. It's good to hear about what is happening on the East Coast with you guys.
Awww! This reminds of our fun we had at the pumpkin patch at Thanksgiving point. I've always wanted to go apple picking, especially if it ends with a homemade pie.
