Why do kids attach themselves to the weirdest things? Ellie has a fascination with my old Skipper (Barbie's little sister, remember?) doll head--you read that right, not the whole doll, just the head. She carries that head everywhere including the doctor's office and Costco. I'm sure people who see her with it think what a poor, deprived child she must be because her parents only give her broken, 20 year-old toys to play with. She calls it her "doll" and had a complete meltdown when Harrison took it away from her today. I guess if she only plays with the head she won't suffer from all those Barbie-inflicted "body issues" the media tells us about (but she just might start crimping her hair and wearing blue eye shadow).
Ellie went to the doctor today from her 15 month check-up. She is now 19 lb, 1 oz and 30 inches long. The doctor said she looks great but has some fluid in her ear so we are going to start her on some antibiotics.
Ellie is obsessed with shoes lately. She goes through multiple pairs a day. Her favorite pair right now are some white leather ones for church. Unfortunately she thinks they go with everything and wears them around the house with jeans, jammies, and pink cords. Thankfully I have been able to talk her out of them when we leave the house but I know a time will come where I will be the mom to one of "those kids" you raise your eyebrows at while in the grocery store.
Harrison got to go to work with dad today while Ellie was at the doctor. He was thrilled and packed his own Winnie the Pooh backpack for the visit. He immediately drank his juice box when he got to "work" and then got down to business playing all sorts of computer games.
Last night Harrison tried to convince me to read the Curious George Rides a Bike book for the 100th time this week. I somehow managed to talk him out of it and read the Curious George donut book instead. As I handed him the new book, I said "I thought we should shake things up a bit" (referring to the the pre-bed reading choices). So what did he do? He shook the book. It was too cute and writing it down doesn't really capture it's cuteness but I promise, it was cute.

Yes, the doll head thing is a little scary. And I have experienced the raised eyebrow at the store...Dawson's prefers to dress himself and find things that "match"...he also likes to wear sandals with socks...I mean we are in the northwest here. And I did picture little Harrison shaking the book and i laughed right out loud, but I'm sure it was better being there =)
The doll head is totally funny. And every parent just knows that you had a nice little fight about that before you headed anywhere. Same thing about the clothes. We've gone to the store wearing red socks and pink something or other. My favorite is going somewhere when they wear dress up clothes. It's not worth the fight in my opinion and you usually just get some grins.
So I've decided as long as your kid is dressed, who cares what they are wearing? I think I'll feel differently with Lani because she's a girl, but with Aaron as long as he put it on all by himself, I am proud of whatever he's got on (even if it's the Spiderman costume I have to wash every night.
