"Christmas time yet?" I think Harrison says that phrase at least 17 times a day lately. This is the first year that he has understood and felt the anticipation of the Christmas season. Lately we have been receiving at least one, if not several packages a day and he is always excited to help open the box and put the presents under the tree. He will ask, "Who is this one for, Mommy?" and I will point to the name and respond, "You know who". He will look at the first letter of the name and be able to determine the receiver ("'E' Ellie!"). He has been really good about leaving the presents under the tree alone but did break into a gift bag for him today that was stashed away in our room. Grrrr.
For the next two weeks we are babysitting two rats for a grad student who worked in Josh's lab this past semester. Basil and Rosemary provide constant entertainment. Harrison wants to play with them all day but they haven't warmed up to him yet. He is a little loud and I doubt they are used to the constant commotion a pre-schooler provides. Until they warm up to him or he mellows A LOT, they stay in the cage. Harrison and Ellie both love to put their fingers in the cage and let the rats tickle them with their whiskers. Ellie just giggles and giggles when they sniff her fingers. Harrison says the rats have a "park" since they have a slide in the cage.
Josh made Harrison a tunnel in the "snow mountain" in our driveway. The tunnel is about 2.5 ft high and a few feet deeps with plans to expand. Harrison loves to play in the snow and since it NEVER melts, he always has snow to play in.
Ellie has a raging fever and a case of the grumpies which I think is caused by her MMR vaccination. Hopefully she will be a new woman tomorrow.
We are trying to determine what to make for Christmas dinner and haven't come up with the perfect meal. I am not a ham fan although I know that is the traditional fare for many. I wanted to do a turkey but no one has them on sale and I don't think I want to spend the whole day in the kitchen. Any ideas? I don't want to end up eating mac and cheese :)

Cornish game hens? That's the Neal traditional Christmas Eve dinner. We thought it was cool cause we each got our own "mini-Turkeys". Christmas day we do French dip sandwiches!
I vote for quick and easy. Mom's deserve a holiday on Christmas, too. Why not lasagna or pizza (which you can make ahead and freeze) or something from a box. The chicken cordon bleu from Sams Club is very good. Some years I do dinner buffet style with finger foods like meatballs, cocktail wieners, cheese and crackers, chips and dip, vegy's, fruit, etc. We will be doing this on Christmas Eve this year.
