Ellie went to the pediatrician yesterday for her 12 month well baby check-up. The doctor said she looked great and was impressed that she understands and follows commands and can use a fork and spoon (and can identify which one is the shrimp fork, soup spoon, butter knife, and fold a napkin into a swan). She is now 18 lbs 1 oz and 29.5 inches long. She's still our skinny minny. The doctor told us to keep trying to feed her a variety of foods and lots of good fats. She is one picky eater and yet this doctor thinks she might like edamame? hummus? My goodness, she won't even touch cheddar cheese! The doctor is living in a dream world. Ellie was a brave girl when the nurse gave her the 4 immunization injections. Harrison, on the other hand, was a turkey during the doctor's visit. He would spin in circles and then fall down from being so dizzy and then climb on a chair and turn the lights off and on and off and on and off (well, you can see the pattern). My favorite though was when he would turn into a "scary monster" (his words, not mine) and attach the doctor (tickle her stomach). He makes a great first impression. :)
Today we made a trip to Costco before the big blizzard hit. We had to stock up in case the snow and ice keeps us trapped in the house until March (which is kind of a funny thought for those who have been in my kitchen and know my food storage obsession--one would argue we could live off what is in our cupboards and Harrison's closet until March). All the local schools, including the universities, have canceled classes for at least this afternoon. The snow is currently falling and looks rather lovely and we now have a 5 lb bag of carrots just in case. :) Harrison talked me into a smoothie AND a churro at Costco and so we all shared a sugar high. I'm pretty sure the pediatrician would consider a churro "good fats", don't you? Ellie quickly took to the berry smoothie which shouldn't be too much of a surprised considering how many of those I drank while pregnant with her (she was probably having flashbacks to the womb). I guess I have created another Costco shopper for life.
Josh says that Ellie took two steps on her own yesterday. She is getting closer to walking but isn't quite there yet.
Harrison's new favorite activity is "disco". He comes up to me every day and say "lights on, mommy, disco, disco!". I may not be the perfect mom but I do host discos on occasion. We turn the Christmas tree lights on and the living room lights off and dance. Ellie enjoys discos too as long as Harrison doesn't pull on her arms too much when we spin in circles.
I will have to jump on the other computer to add pictures.

Disco dancing huh? Maybe we should try it...I'm trying to find other alternatives instead of the Wiggles...Dawson and I both know all the words and moves to every song on every movie made. Maybe we will start disco dancing...
