Thanksgiving weekend

We enjoyed a nice, quiet Thanksgiving weekend at home. We all have colds and are all at different stages of the icky-sickies. Josh is almost over it, Harrison and I are somewhere in the middle, and Ellie is on day 2 and looks downright awful. Ah the joys of family life.

For our first Thanksgiving away from family, we inadvertently started our very own new Cameron family tradition. On Wednesday evening, we were eating dinner and the oven timer when off signaling that it was time to remove the apple pie from the oven. We looked over our masterpiece and thought about how great it would taste the following day at our Thanksgiving dinner. But as we sat and smelled that pie all through dinner and reflected on how wonderful warm apple pie out of the oven is with vanilla ice cream slowing melting on top, we decided to forget the picture perfect Thanksgiving dinner image in our heads and break into the pie. And that is how the Camerons will be celebrating "Thanksgiving Eve" from now on; eating pie and making sure we get our full 3,000 calories in on this great American holiday. Some may say we have no will power or self restraint, I say "here's to a new family tradition!"

We made a 13 pound turkey with some tasty sausage stuffing, Holly's rolls (our family recipe for dinner rolls), gravy, rice, carrots, jello, and mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce for Josh. Oh, and the apple pie from the night before :) Harrison helped make the jello and is a great little cook. Considering how excited he was to make the jello, I thought he would be anxious to eat it. Once again, I was wrong. He has wanted me to put it on his plate the past three nights but won't touch it. Ellie is still a self-proclaimed vegetarian and we can officially add turkey to the list of meat and poultry she won't eat. She did dig into the jello though so I guess she doesn't have a problem with horses hooves. We tried to explain to Harrison that Thanksgiving is a holiday and the significance of the day but he didn't really care. When we ate leftovers the following day he did ask if it was a holiday again. Nothing gets by that kid.

On Friday, Josh graciously volunteered to watch the kids while I did some Black Friday shopping. So I went to Kohls, the Burlington Mall, Old Navy, and Joann's (all by 11am). People are crazy. They really are. Thankfully by the time I hit stores the pushing, grabbing, and other insanity was basically over. Even though I enjoy shopping (sans kids, no less) I would never go to Kohl's at 4am in my pajamas like some people did. For the record, I made it out of Joann's without buying an inch of fabric even though flannel was on sale for 99 cents a yard. 99 cents a yard! I have never seen it that cheap! But I bought my velcro and left. By the time I got home, my cold officially kicked in and I was ready for a nap.

On Saturday, we were rather lazy. Josh watched the BYU vs. U of U game (now I know why he offered to watch the kids on Friday!). BYU won in the last minute so yeah for that.

The kids are growing and are busy as ever. Fall is quickly slipping past and we are looking forward to the many fun Christmas activities New England has to offer. I promise pictures for my next post.
