Natural History Museum

I will cover Harrison's birthday in a post tomorrow because I am too lazy to get off the couch, find the camera, and load pictures right now. Sorry.

Yesterday we went to the Natural History Museum at Harvard. Both kids had a total blast; you would have thought we took them to Disneyland. Ellie loved the birds and beetles the most but was interested in just about everything. Harrison went wild when he saw the dinosaur bones. The museum has a 42-ft long Kronosaurus and Harrison ran from one end to the other then over to another dinosaur and then repeated the process over and over again. He was so excited his mouth couldn't keep up with his thoughts and everything he said came out jumbled. He has been playing with a large dinosaur puzzle he received for Christmas all week and so it was a lot of fun to point out the dinosaur bones that correlated with the dinosaurs in his puzzle. The museum has a huge collection of taxidermy specimens and it was almost better than going to the zoo. The kids could see the animals up close and they didn't run away from my LOUD child :) I guess the only down side is that the animals are dead and creepy looking.
Neither of the children were particularly interested in the rocks and minerals but after seeing the animals, I can't blame them.

The museum also has a huge collection of glass flowers that are absolutely amazing (Harrison's apparently didn't think so since he ran through the room in about 2 minutes). Definitely worth a trip.

We need to work a little on our museum behavior (read here less running and more whispers) so we plan to return soon. Where are the pictures you ask? Well, I remembered the camera but forgot the memory card, grrr.

In the afternoon, we celebrated New Year's Eve with noise makers and hats. Harrison is very proficient at blowing those cheap party horns.

My son loved that Harvard Museum of Natural History..and especially the fun of riding the subway to get there..It's an easy walk from the T at Harvard Square..and only 3/4 mile from the Commuter Rail stop at Porter Square..so you can enjoy a fun walk to explore along the way..

We can't wait to have Harrison and Ellie to give us the full blown Natural History Museum tour (and maybe Kristen will show us the flowers, too.) It's quite nice for a Grandmother to tell people that her kids and grandkids go to Harvard---and it doesn't even hurt our budget (thanks to the brilliant son-in-law!) Most people think I'm too young to have grandchildren at Harvard, but I just say I started having kids early.
