Dr. Cameron is official

Josh, Harrison, and Ellie in front of the John Harvard statue, Harvard University

Today we went on an official Harvard campus tour. We learned some interesting Harvard lore and got to see the heart of campus. Harrison and Ellie were both done by the end of the hour tour and the only way we kept Harrison from completely losing it was by bribing him with a treat. After the tour, we went to Josh's building and got to see his office and meet a number of his co-workers. They seem nice and we will be spending the day with them tomorrow on the Cape. It's funny, when you think of Harvard you think: top of the line, classic, and just "wow, Harvard". So with that in mind, Josh's building was, well, less than impressive. The interior is old painted cinder block and Josh's office has a desk circa 1950 (with an office chair to match). The people are nice though :)

Okay, here are some things I rather dislike about Boston:
-the drivers. Man, they are mean and just don't know how to drive.

-the shocking lack of street signs, streets that magically turn into another street without any warning, the completely random street layout and design, one way streets everywhere, ah, I could go on for days about the driving woes of living in Boston (and we get crummy gas mileage thanks to all the horrible stop and go traffic).

-the guy who lives below us who smokes not one, but two cigars in a 20 minute window right below our sun room. Our whole apartment fills with smoke when that happens (thankfully the landlord is on our side and has once again talked to the people below about now going down the street to smoke).

-the nearly non-existent Mexican food section in the grocery store. Do you know how hard it is to find tortillas and diced green chiles here? Those are not "specialty" foods in my book, they are staples like bread and milk! I haven't bothered looking for a legitimate Mexican restaurant and might just go on a Mexican food fast while living here (I refuse to ruin Mexican food by eating food that is substandard; when you do that, you slowly start to think that crummy food is good and next thing you know, Taco Bell is your version of authentic).

-Parking costs, yuck! We paid $16 to park downtown last week on a Saturday (and that was one of the cheaper places).

-Rent. I think we will have to sell our organs or a child every month to pay our ridiculous rent.

-rainstorms 3x a week in the middle of Summer. Oh, and then 3 miserably hot and humid days a week. On the bright side, you have a day like today that is perfect with cool breezes and just ideal.

So that's my initial list. Every place you live has good and bad things about it. A list of positive things about living in Boston can be found to the left ( I will add things as they come to me).

I learned today why you shouldn't store your cookie sheets and cutting boards in the oven...yeah, you can probably figure that one out without a detailed story. We are all fine and the house did not catch on fire :)

Josh got his diploma in the mail yesterday so, yeah! It's really official now.
